Featured Member - Richard Powell
Richard is probably the Phoenix Camera Club's longest serving member, having been a former member of the old Holsworthy Camera Club which he joined in the late 1970's!
He enjoys nature and countryside photography, particularly wildlife, insects and especially flowers and still life images. Richard says he also used to do a bit of portraiture, but explains that finding models and suitable places to shoot have become more difficult over the years. He is now trying his hand at Landscapes and also experimenting with different types of photography, 'just to see what happens'!
Richard has always used Pentax camera's, both film and digital and now has a K20D with a Tamron 18-250mm zoom lens. He also carries a Fuji compact digital camera nowadays for everyday use.
Featured Member - Carol Sparham
A member of the Phoenix Camera Club nearly three years, Carol is a keen photographer with a creative eye and a flair for capturing unusual and interesting images.
Carol is the club's Secretary and organises the annual programme of events and presentations.
Also a member of Launceston Camera Club, Carol regularly wins both club and external competitions for her captivating and inspiring photographs.
Featured Member - Roger Young
Roger tells us "I have been interested in photography for over 50 years. My first camera was a Box Brownie handed down through the family and allowed to use on “special” occasions. In the late 1960’s I moved on to a Zenit B and have ended up with a Canon 300D digital reflex camera and a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5 compact. For processing I use an early version of Photoshop Elements and/or Picasa 3 both of these giving me enough control over what I want to do.
I have been a member of the Club since 2003 and was Treasurer for three years before taking over from Chris Thain as Chairman in 2009.
I am more of an opportunist photographer than a pre-planner and will go out to take what I see, rather than have a fixed image in mind beforehand. I take more nature, landscape and flower photos than anything else but am always interest in the effect of light and enjoy doing the occasional still life.
The challenge of club competitions is a spur to my picture taking and makes the little grey cells stir themselves. Long may it continue!"
