Competitions

Phoenix Camera Club participates in both internal and external photographic competitions. While we take every competitions seriously in so far as we adhere to the rules and we do our best to be successful in them, the prime purpose of holding and entering these competitions is to help us grow and develop our skills and confidance, both as a club and as individual members.

Our regular internal competitions are relatively informal affairs, whereby members submit their images that meet the prescribed competition theme. These images are then judged, either by the membership as a whole, or by an invited guest judge, who will also critique the images. Constructive criticism is given (and hopefully taken) in good humour and we hope that we might all learn something that helps us improve our photography.

Placed images are allocated points, which cumulatively count towards the winner of our Annual Competition Trophy.

In addition to these internal competitions, we are increasingly participating in regional events, such as the Devon Image Battle (see link below) whereby the club is represented by members selected images and presented for judging according the to rules of the individual competition.

We also encourage our members to enter individual photographic competitions and some of our photographers have been successful in this arena.

In May 2010, Phoenix Camera Club entered the annual Devon Image Battle, this year held at Newton Abbot. Our digital panel was lucky enough to be 'Highly Commended' this year. Click here to see the 2010 Devon Image Battle winning images.

The overall winner in the Colour print category was Chris Pollard, with his unusual shot entitled 'Preparing'.

Competition: June 2010 - 'H20' - Mono Print Winner

In the Mono category, first place was awarded to David Evans for his panoramic view of the 'Tamar at Calstock'

David tells us that this image was stitched together from a number of shots he captured from a train that he was travelling on!

Very well done to David for his success!

This competition was judged by Hilary Philips, who is also a member of Launceston Camera Club. Thank you Hilary!
